Be A Witness

Screaming In Silence
The Ultimate Crime
Voice Your Concern
At The Horror
For There Are Those Who Cannot
There Are Those Who Are Not Able
Ignorance Is Not Bliss
If It Affects One
It Affects Us All
No Longer Can We Pretend
No Longer Can We Wear Blinders To The World
No Longer Must We Remain Silent

Whether it is coverage of the civil rights movement
in the 1950s and 60s, the Ethiopian famine in the 1980s,
or recent coverage of the tsunami,
television news can help stop grave injustices
and end human suffering.
Increased television coverage of the genocide in Darfur
has the power to spur the action required
to stop a devastating crime against humanity.

Matt: you should definitely write.

Sherry: You've once again illuminated an important issue. Being a member of the media, I realize how much sway we have in the world. If only we could highlight every injustice...

Over here in the UK, this was a huge story aboutb 12 months ago, and there were huge appeals, pictures of starving children in camps etc. on the news every night. And now? Nothing. The public just gets bored after a while. I bet you haven't heard how the earthquake victims in Pakistan are doing either? Tsunami survivors in Aceh? Pro-democracy movement in Burma? The news just moves on. I guarantee in 6 months, nobody will be thinking about Lebanon either.

Mattias: You've had 8 years to come up with a good one - so lay it on us :-)

Tumuli: A member of the media you say, very interesting. Yes, you do hold the public sway, not always in a positive light I'm afraid, but it remains the best medium in bringing awareness to the ignorance we have or choose to ignore about our world.

Interesting Mayan(?) pic by the way.

Christopher: No, it's not a new story - Not much word about it here in the US either. That's just one of the many down falls of our fast-paced-live-in-the-moment-society. We are only concerned with ourselves and what currently affects us.

I'm just trying to do my minuscule part in bringing awareness and help spread the word about 9/17/06 in NY.

Awww, [blushing] thank you Ang.

Really I'm just trying to prevent the horns from poking all the way through my halo, but (shhh) don't tell anyone okay?
